Chemistry Special

Chemistry Special is right at the Ultadanga Crossing. If you know Kolkata, you know how busy that spot gets at almost any hour. It's 700067 and there is always a lot of traffic and people moving around. We are tucked into a space there where we focus on teaching. It isn't a huge office or a polished center. It’s more of a place where students come and sit down to get through their work. The noise from the crossing is just part of the background here, we hardly notice it anymore. I started this because I knew the subject well and people started asking for help. It grew from there, but I’ve kept it small. I don't see the point in making it look like a big corporation. It's just a room with some boards and books. People find us because they need help with their studies and they know we are right here at the crossing. It’s convenient for anyone taking the bus or the auto-rickshaws from different parts of the city. Sometimes the stairs are a bit cramped, and it gets hot in the summer, but we manage with the fans. It’s a very practical environment for learning. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or advertisements. Most of the people who come here heard about us from a friend or a neighbor. That is how it has always been since we first opened up in this spot.
