Chemgems (India) Pvt Ltd is based out of the North Tangra area, near Rajarghat. It’s an interesting part of the city to work in, with a lot of different businesses all mixed together. Our place is pretty much what you’d expect for a company dealing with materials. There are rows of containers and samples everywhere you look. It’s not a place for fancy carpets or expensive furniture because things can get a bit dusty or messy depending on what we’re doing that day. We have a small crew of people who have been with us for a long time. We mostly spend our days checking orders and making sure the shipments are ready to go out. The traffic around Rajarghat can be a real headache in the evenings, so we usually try to get our logistics sorted early in the day. We don’t have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy speeches. We just focus on the products we handle and making sure we don't make mistakes with the numbers. It’s a lot of routine work, checking labels and talking to transporters. We’ve been at this for years and we just like to keep things simple and honest. If you walk into our office, you’ll see people busy with clipboards and calculators, just trying to get the day's work finished before the sun goes down and we all head home to our families.
