You can find Call Concepts tucked away at 4, Kalidas Dutta Lane in Kolkata. It’s one of those narrow lanes where the buildings are close together and you can hear the city humming all around you. We’ve been in this spot for a while now, just running our little operation with a few phones and some computers. It’s not a big call center with hundreds of people. It’s just a small group of us in a cramped room, talking to people and trying to sort things out. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the floor creaks in a few spots, but it’s our space. We drink a lot of chai to keep ourselves going during the long shifts. Kolkata can be a loud place, and our lane is no different. We have to keep the windows shut sometimes just to hear the people on the other end of the line. We don't have any corporate slogans or polished speeches. We just talk like regular people because that’s who we are. Some days the technology acts up and we have to spend hours trying to get the lines working again. It’s frustrating, but we manage to get by. We aren't trying to change the world; we’re just trying to keep the work coming in and make a living in this busy city. It’s been our home for years and we know the neighborhood well.
