Shyam Sundar Modak

If you go down to Madarat in Baruipur and look near the police station, you will find where Shyam Sundar Modak is based. Being so close to the station makes it easy to give people directions, even though the area can get pretty hectic during the middle of the day. The building is simple, nothing that would stand out if you were just driving past quickly. We have been here for a bit, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. Inside, it’s mostly just a workspace with the usual furniture and the sound of a ceiling fan clicking on the high setting. We don't have a lot of decorative stuff on the walls because we are mostly focused on the daily tasks. It gets quite warm in Baruipur during the summer months, so we usually have the windows open to catch any breeze, even if it brings in the noise from the street. The staff here are locals for the most part, so we all know the best spots to grab a quick snack when the hunger hits. We don't try to be anything we aren't, we just do our job and go home to our families. It’s a practical setup and it serves us well for what we need to accomplish. Sometimes the power cuts out, but we just wait it out and chat until it comes back on. It is a quiet life here most of the time.
