Ghatge Patil Industries Limited

Up here in Uchagaon, the air is a bit different than the city center. Ghatge Patil Industries Limited takes up a fair bit of space around here. It’s a big operation, but at the end of the day, it’s just a lot of people working with iron and machines. We’ve got the foundry going and the machine shops hum all day long. If you walk through the floor, you’ll hear the clanging of metal and see the sparks. It’s not quiet work. Most of us live nearby, so Uchagaon feels like home as much as the factory does. We make a lot of different parts for tractors and trucks, things that need to be heavy and strong. There is a lot of heat involved, especially near the furnaces. You get used to the sweat. We aren't really into the whole corporate image thing. We just wear our work gear and get on with the casting and the machining. Sometimes things go wrong with a mold and we have to start over, but that’s part of the process. Lunch breaks are usually spent sitting outside if the weather is okay. We’ve been part of the landscape here for a long time. People know us and we know them. It’s just a place where things are built to last by people who know their trade. The machines are old but they run fine with a little grease and attention every morning.
