We have been working out of Shahu Industrial Estate for quite a few years now. Our spot is at Gat No. 417 and 436, specifically Plot No. 4 in the Agar Bhag Shirol area of Kolhapur. It is a busy part of town with a lot of manufacturing going on around us. Every morning, the sun comes up over the fields and we open the big rolling shutters to let the breeze in. It gets really hot in the middle of the day, so we try to get the heavy loading done early when it is still cool. The warehouse floor is mostly filled with rolls of material and stacks of finished boxes. It’s not the most organized place to look at, but we know where everything is kept. There is a small tea stall just down the road where we all go for a break in the afternoon. The tea is strong and helps us get through the rest of the shift. We have a few older machines that make a lot of noise, but they still work perfectly fine for what we need. Sometimes the trucks get delayed on the highway, so we end up sitting around the yard talking about the local cricket scores or the weather. It is a simple way of living and working. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning; we just have a small corner with a couple of chairs and a desk for the paperwork. Most of us live nearby in Shirol or travel in from Kolhapur city. It’s a steady life here at the packaging plant.
