Ankush Paints & Hardware

Ankush Paints & Hardware is easy to find because we are near the old Sakal Press and right opposite the Swastik Market on the Main Road in Gandhi Nagar. Being on the main road means we get a lot of dust and noise, but it also means we see a lot of people every day. The shop smells like a mix of paint thinner and new plastic, which is something you just get used to after working here for a week. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, filled with tins of paint, boxes of nails, and various tools. Sometimes we have to use a very shaky ladder to reach the stuff at the top. We spend a lot of time mixing colors for people who are fixing up their homes. It is a messy job and our aprons are covered in different colored spots. We also sell a lot of small hardware bits like hinges and screws that we keep in little glass jars. The floor is concrete and we sweep it twice a day, but it never stays clean for long. Most of the customers are local contractors or neighbors who are doing some repairs. We have a small counter where we do all the billing and sometimes we sit there and chat with the regulars. It is a straightforward business and we just try to help people find what they need for their houses.
