Tata Steel

We spend a lot of time here at the welfare office in West Bokaro. It is tucked away in Ghatotand, right in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. If you live around here, you know how the weather gets, especially in the summer months when the sun is really beating down. The office itself stays busy with people coming in and out all day long. Most of the folks here are part of the Tata Steel family in one way or another. We handle a lot of the everyday stuff that keeps things running behind the scenes for the workers and their families. It’s not a fancy place, just a practical one with desks piled with folders and the sound of the old ceiling fans clicking overhead. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, but we just wait it out and keep chatting. The area around the P.O-Ghatotand has changed some over the years, but the spirit of the place stays the same. People know where to find us if they have a question or need some paperwork sorted out. There’s a tea stall just down the road that makes the best ginger tea, and that’s usually where you’ll find some of us during the afternoon break. It’s just how life goes here. We work, we help out where we can, and we try to make sure everyone feels looked after. It’s a quiet corner of the division, but it feels like the heart of it.
