If you head over to Thopumpady, you’ll find us there. It’s an area with a lot of history, especially with the docks and all the maritime stuff going on nearby. Middle East Exports is basically just a small crew of us working out of an office that’s seen better days but works just fine for our needs. We spend a lot of time dealing with containers and shipping schedules. It gets loud outside sometimes with the heavy vehicles moving through the narrow streets. You learn to talk over the noise. The office always smells a bit like the sea and old paper. We handle a lot of the back-and-forth communication that comes with sending goods abroad. It’s mostly checking lists, confirming weights, and making sure the labels are right. Thopumpady has its own energy, very different from the inland parts of the city. We’ve got a few old desks and some chairs that have been around since we started. There isn't any fancy art on the walls, just calendars and maybe a map or two pinned up. Lunch is usually something from the local stalls down the street. Sometimes things get hectic when a ship is leaving and the paperwork isn't quite ready yet. We just work through it together. It’s a practical business. We don’t do big presentations or anything. People know we are here to move goods, and that’s what happens every day. It’s a steady pace, mostly, unless the weather acts up or the port is backed up.
