If you know Karukapilly Junction, then you’ve probably seen our shop. We are right there on Deshabhimani Road in Kaloor. It is a very busy part of the city, and there is always a lot of traffic passing by our door. We keep the store stocked with everyday things that people in the neighborhood need. It is a small place, so we have to stack things pretty high on the shelves. Sometimes it feels a bit tight inside when a few customers come in at once. We’ve been at this junction for a long time, watching the buildings grow up around us. The street noise is constant from morning until night. We usually have the radio playing in the background to pass the time between customers. People stop in for quick things while they are walking to the bus stop or heading home from work. We don't have a lot of room for fancy stuff, so we just stick to the basics. Dealing with the heat in the afternoon is the hardest part, but we have a small fan that helps a bit. We try to be helpful when someone is looking for a specific item we might have tucked away in a corner. It is a regular neighborhood store, nothing more and nothing less. We just keep things moving along. It is how we make our living and we are okay with that. Every day brings different people and different small problems to solve.
