Nilgiris

Our Nilgiris shop is tucked inside the Gokulam Park Hotel over in Kaloor. Ernakulam is always moving fast, and Kaloor is one of those spots where you really feel it. We are right there at 682017, and even though we are inside the hotel building, we get people coming in from the street too. The shelves are filled with the usual stuff you’d expect, like the Nilgiris bread and dairy products that people have been buying for years. The delivery trucks usually show up early in the morning, so that’s when we are busiest unpacking crates and stacking the fridges. It’s a small space, so we have to be organized or things get messy pretty quick. The staff spends their shift checking dates on the milk and helping people find what they need. It is a handy spot for the hotel guests who want a snack or something to drink without going too far. We don’t have much room for fancy displays, so we just focus on keeping the basics in stock. Sometimes the air conditioning gets a bit cold, but it keeps the food fresh. It’s a simple routine of opening up, stocking the shelves, and talking to the regulars who stop by on their way home from work. Kaloor is a busy hub, so there is always someone coming through the door. We just try to keep the queues short and the milk cold for everyone who visits.
