Steel Teck

If you walk down Bazar Road in Mattancherry, you will see us at number 92. Steel Teck is right in the middle of all that Ernakulam bustle. It is a crowded area, especially on days when the market is full of trucks and people. Our shop is not very large, but we manage to fit quite a bit of steel in there. It can be a struggle moving the long pipes around when the street is packed outside. We have been here for a while, seeing the buildings around us change slowly. The air smells like the sea sometimes, and other times it just smells like exhaust from the traffic. We do a lot of cutting and basic work with steel pieces. It is heavy, dirty work, and by the end of the day, everyone is tired. There is not a lot of space for sitting around. We usually just have our lunch right there among the tools. The floor is concrete and has plenty of scratches from dragging metal across it for years. People from the neighborhood know us by now. They stop in for small jobs or just to say hello while they are out doing their shopping. It is not a quiet place, between the street noise and our own machines. We do not mind it much. It feels like home after all these years at Mattancherry. Just a regular business doing regular things with metal.
