K.K. Steel & Cement

Our business, K.K. Steel & Cement, is located on Sea Port Road in the Chittethukara area of Kakkanad. This road is a major route for heavy vehicles, so we see a lot of big trucks carrying all sorts of goods towards the port. Our yard is filled with stacks of steel rods and bags of cement, which can make it a bit difficult to move around sometimes. We have a small shed that serves as the office where we handle the billing and the phone calls. Kakkanad has grown a lot lately, so there are always new construction projects popping up nearby. This keeps us pretty busy most of the time. The humidity here can be quite high, which isn't great for the steel, so we have to be careful about how we store things. We have a couple of guys who help with the loading, and they are usually covered in dust by the end of the shift. It’s a noisy place to work because of the traffic on Sea Port Road, but you get used to it. We don't have a website or anything like that; people usually just see our sign from the road and pull in. It’s a local operation run by people who live nearby. We focus on getting the materials out to the sites as quickly as the traffic allows. It’s a lot of physical work and managing the delivery schedules every single day.
