Akhilanda Easwari Iron Mart

Akhilanda Easwari Iron Mart is located right along Market Canal Rd. It’s an area that has its own rhythm, mostly because of the market being so close. You can hear the sounds of the canal and the people moving goods back and forth all day. Our shop deals mostly in iron, so things can get a bit heavy and noisy when we’re moving stock around. The air smells like metal and old stone, which is just how it is when you work with these materials every day. We don’t have much in the way of decoration here. The walls are mostly just covered in whatever we need to keep the business running. It’s a practical space. When the rain comes down hard, the sound on the metal roof is something else, but we just keep on with what we’re doing. Most of our neighbors on Market Canal Rd have been here for a long time too, so we all know each other’s faces. We spend a lot of our time organizing the different iron pieces and making sure everything is stacked safely. It’s hard work on the back sometimes, but it’s what we do. We don't really bother with any of that modern office stuff or fancy software. It’s just us, the iron, and the daily flow of the market street. Some days are slower than others, which gives us time to clean up the workspace a bit and check the gates.
