Saraswathi Vidyalayam

Up in Kasaragod, on the road between Bovikanam and Mallam, sits Saraswathi Vidyalayam. It is a school that has been serving the families around Malla for a good while. The building is simple, painted a light color that has faded a bit over the years. We have a decent sized yard where the kids gather for assembly every morning. It is usually quite peaceful here, surrounded by a bit of greenery, which is nice for studying. The teachers here are mostly locals who have a lot of patience. We do not use any high-tech gadgets; it is mostly just books, chalk, and talk. We have different grades all sharing the same corridors, so it can get a bit hectic when classes change. But that is just how a school feels. Most parents here know us by name, and we see them often at local events. We focus on the basics and try to make sure every child learns how to behave well. The rooms have big windows to let the breeze in because it gets humid during the monsoon months. We have a small library, though it is mostly just a few shelves of old stories and textbooks. It is a straightforward place where children come to grow up a bit before moving on to bigger things. Nothing complicated about how we do things here in Bovikanam. We just open the gates every morning and do our best with what we have.
