Panipat is an industrial kind of town, and our school is right in the middle of that atmosphere. We aren't a big, fancy institution with a massive stadium. Instead, we are a local school where the neighborhood kids come to get their lessons done. The building is simple, painted in plain colors, and sits on a street that gets quite a bit of traffic during the rush hours. You can hear the sounds of the town outside, but once the bell rings, we try to keep things focused inside the classrooms. The rooms are a bit small, and we have to be careful with how we arrange the desks so everyone fits. We have a small area for play, but it’s mostly about the books here. The teachers are locals who have lived in Haryana their whole lives, so they speak the same way the parents do. We don't use a lot of complicated technology; it’s mostly chalk and talk. Every morning, we line the kids up for the assembly, and you can see the mix of uniforms, some looking a bit more worn than others. It’s just a regular part of life here in the 132103 zip code. We spend our time checking homework and making sure the kids stay out of trouble during the breaks. There is always some repair work to be done, like a leaky tap or a broken window, but we manage. It’s just a normal school for normal families.
