Adarsh Public Senior Secondary School

Out here in Kharak, life moves a bit slower than in the main part of Karnal. Our school has been part of this village for quite some time. We handle everything from the primary kids up to the senior secondary students. It is a large range of ages to have in one place. The building is a simple structure with a courtyard in the middle. We don't have much in the way of decoration. We just have our classrooms and the playground. The mornings are always cold in the winter, and we see the kids coming in with their sweaters and bags. We focus on the state board exams mostly. That takes up a lot of our energy. The teachers live nearby, so they understand the background of the students. We deal with the usual school stuff like parents coming in to talk about grades or discipline. It's not a flashy school. We have a few computers, but mostly it's just pens and notebooks. The playground gets dusty in the summer, and we try to keep the water coolers filled up. It’s a lot of responsibility to look after the older teenagers too. We just try to provide a decent place for them to learn so they can find jobs or go to college later. It's a basic, honest school for the local families and the kids seem to appreciate it.
