Khijurwada Farmer Producer Company Limited is over in Khijurwada, which is part of the Hindaun area in Karauli. We are at Jagdish’s place; he is the son of Kisori Mali. The office is right there in the heart of the village. It is a humble setup, mostly just a room with a few plastic chairs and a big wooden cabinet for the company files. We do not have any big signs out front. You just have to know where the Mali family lives. We spend our days managing the activities of the producer company. It means a lot of talking to the local farmers about their needs and what the company can do to help organize things. There is usually a bit of tea being passed around while we go over the ledger books. The walls are a little bare, maybe a calendar or two hanging up to keep track of the dates. It is a functional space. We do not worry much about how it looks to outsiders because our main focus is on the work right here in Karauli. When the rains come, the roof makes a bit of noise, but we just keep on with the paperwork. It is a steady kind of life. People drop in to say hello or to ask about the latest rules for farmer groups. We try our best to keep everything sorted out properly without any extra drama. We are just local people working together.
