Rekha Chemicals & Essence Supplies is at 52-F in the N Block of Yashoda Nagar. If you walk down the street, you can usually tell which building is ours because of the different smells. We deal with essences, so one day it might smell like vanilla and the next day it could be something completely different. It’s a small place, packed tight with drums and small glass bottles. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling to make use of the space. It’s a bit of a maze inside, and you have to be careful not to knock anything over. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to us for a long time. They know where we are, so we don't need much in the way of signs. We spend a lot of time measuring out liquids and sealing them up for transport. The floor is concrete and we have a heavy metal door that we roll up every morning. It’s not the most modern setup, but it’s been working for us for years. We keep a fan going near the desk to stay cool, but it mostly just moves the scented air around. Sometimes we run out of certain items and have to wait for the next delivery truck to navigate the narrow N Block roads. It’s a simple business, run by people who know their products well. We just take things one day at a time here.
