The shop is located at 103-A in the Co-Operative Industrial Estate in Dada Nagar. Being in an industrial area means there is always a layer of dust on everything and the sound of heavy engines is just part of the background. Ajit Chemicals has been operating out of this spot for a long time. The space is mostly filled with blue and white drums and the smell of the materials we work with, which you get used to after about ten minutes. Our floor is industrial grade because things tend to get spilled or dragged across it. The workers wear heavy boots and we have a small break area in the back where there’s an old fridge and a couple of plastic chairs. Dada Nagar is a maze of similar-looking units, so we often have to give directions over the phone to new drivers who get lost near the main estate gate. The electricity is mostly reliable, but when it goes out, the whole place goes strangely silent and we just sit outside until it comes back on. It’s a practical way to earn a living. We don't have any flashy lobby or a receptionist; you just walk in through the main shutters and find someone who isn't too busy to talk. We focus on the daily tasks like filling orders and checking the seals on the containers. It’s honest work in a tough part of town, and we’ve been here long enough to call it home.
