Our shop at 108/99 Durga Devi Road is a busy spot in Gandhi Nagar. We’ve been here for a good while now. The shelves are mostly full of things we make by hand. Some days it gets pretty dusty with all the wood shavings or the fabric bits lying around. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular shop where people stop by. My brother and I usually open up around ten in the morning. We spend most of our time sorting through the stock or talking to the guys who deliver the raw materials. Sometimes the traffic outside gets so loud we have to shout a bit to hear each other. We have different kinds of hand-made items, mostly small things people use in their homes. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we started. More buildings came up, but the road stayed about the same width. There’s a tea stall just a few doors down where we get our morning chai. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us working on the orders as they come in. It’s steady work. Most of our neighbors know us by now. We just keep doing what we do every day, making sure the pieces are finished and ready for whoever needs them. It’s a simple life here in Gandhi Nagar, and we like it that way. We don't plan on moving anywhere else anytime soon.
