Uthiramerur Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are a group of farmers here in Uthiramerur. Our place is over at 33, Bajanai Kovilstreet in Sozhanoor. Most of us grew up around Athiurmelthuli or Kavanurpudhucheri, so we know this land pretty well. This company, Uthiramerur Farmer Producer Company Limited, was started because we wanted to handle things ourselves instead of going through so many middlemen all the time. It gets quite busy here in Kancheepuram when the season is right. We spend most of our mornings out in the fields and then head back to the office on Bajanai Kovilstreet to sort out the paperwork and talk about what needs doing next. It’s not always easy work, and sometimes the weather doesn't help us much, but we just keep at it day by day. We have quite a few families involved now from around the village. We try to share the tools and the costs because doing it alone is just too expensive these days. If you’re passing through Sozhanoor, you’ll probably see some of us standing around talking shop or moving bags of produce. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that, just a regular spot where we can meet up and get the job done. It's just a local group of people trying to make a living from the soil we’ve always known. Sometimes we sit under the trees and talk about the rain, which never seems to come exactly when we need it, but that’s just how farming goes.
