Laxmi Narayan Rice Mill

If you're driving down Kalawad Road, you'll see us right across from the Gujarat Electricity Board. We’re right there in Taluka Kodi. The mill has been part of this landscape for quite some time. It’s a loud place when the machines are running, but we’re used to it. You can usually smell the rice being processed from a little ways off. We don't have any fancy reception area or anything. You just walk in and someone will be there to talk to you. Usually, it's one of us covered in a bit of dust from the bags. We handle a lot of local grain here. It’s a steady kind of life, working the mill. The traffic on Kalawad Road can get a bit much during the day, especially with the GEB office right there. We try to keep our yard organized so the trucks can get in and out without blocking things. It’s not always easy. Some days the power goes out, which is ironic being so close to the electricity board, but we manage. We aren't a big operation with hundreds of workers. It's just a small group of us keeping the Laxmi Narayan Rice Mill going. We take the rice as it comes from the farms around Kodi. It’s honest work. Most of the guys here have been with us for years. We know the machines and we know how to fix them when they act up. It is just life here in Kodi.
