Tulsi Sea Foods

Down on Somnath Road, it’s all about the fish. We are located at Plot No. L316/1-2 in the GIDC area, and if you come by early in the morning, you’ll see the action. The smell of the sea is everywhere, mixed with the smell of ice and diesel from the transport vans. Tulsi Sea Foods is just one of many units here, but we’ve got our own little rhythm. The floors are usually wet because of all the ice we use to keep things fresh. It’s cold inside the processing rooms, which is a relief when the sun is beating down on the GIDC plots outside. We don’t have fancy signs or a big lobby. You just walk in past the crates and find someone in boots to talk to. Dealing with seafood means you don’t really have a fixed schedule; you work when the catch comes in. Some days we are done early, and other days we are still here late at night under the tube lights. The machinery hums along, and there’s always someone shouting over the noise to get a pallet moved. It’s hard work and your hands get rough, but that’s the trade. We’ve been at this specific plot for a while, and the neighbors all know us. It’s a busy, messy, honest way to make a living, and we just keep doing it because it is what we have always done.
