Shiv Salons

Shiv Salons is located on Devi Road in the Kamla Nehru Nagar area of Jodhpur. We are right across from Anju Garments, which is a big landmark most people know around here. The shop has been in this spot for a while now. Jodhpur gets incredibly hot in the summer, so the first thing I do every morning is turn on all the fans. We have these heavy old barber chairs that have seen a lot of use over the years. They are still quite comfortable though. Men from the colony come in for a shave or a quick trim to keep cool. We get a lot of dust from the road, so there's a lot of cleaning to do every morning before we open. It’s a basic setup with big mirrors and some shelves for the combs and clippers. I usually have the tea stall guy from down the street bring me a cup around noon. Sometimes we have a queue of people sitting on the wooden bench, especially on Sunday mornings when everyone is off work. We talk about local news or whatever is happening on Devi Road that day. My hands are usually busy from morning until evening. The floor is easy to sweep, which is good because hair gets everywhere. It isn't a high-end place with air conditioning or expensive products. It is just a neighborhood barbershop where people feel comfortable sitting for twenty minutes. We’ve seen many kids grow up and start coming here for their own adult haircuts.
