Mangla Steels

Our shop is tucked away at Shop No. 3 on Malgodown Road. If you know where the Gandhi Aashram is, then you are pretty close to Mangla Steels. It’s an old part of the neighborhood, and the road gets quite narrow when the delivery trucks are parked outside. We deal with steel all day, so there is always that metallic smell in the air. The shop is small and packed with rods, pipes, and different kinds of metal sheets. We spend a good chunk of the day cutting things to size or loading up cycles and carts for local deliveries. It gets noisy when the saws are running, especially with the echo off the walls. Sometimes it’s hard to hear the phone ringing over the sound of metal hitting metal. We aren't big on decorations here; it’s just grey walls and heavy racks. The floor is scratched up from all the iron being dragged across it over the years. We keep a ledger on the desk to track what goes out, but mostly we remember who needs what. Being near the ashram means it stays a bit calmer than the main market, but we still have our hands full most hours. It's just a regular place where we work with our hands and try to keep the steel organized for the next person who stops by.
