Maa Bhatiyani Hair Saloon

Maa Bhatiyani Hair Saloon is located at Shop Number 2 in Lal Maidan, right on Paotha C Road. We are very close to the Income Tax Office here in Jodhpur. My father started this work and now I am the one running the shop every day. It is a typical men’s salon with the big old-fashioned chairs that are actually quite comfortable. The walls have some posters of different haircuts, mostly from old Hindi films, which people still like to ask for. Jodhpur gets incredibly hot in the summer months so the air conditioner is a must, though sometimes the old fan has to do the job. The Income Tax office employees often come over during their lunch break for a quick shave or a head massage. I keep a radio playing in the corner, usually some old songs or the news. It is a small space but we make it work. I spend most of my day with a pair of scissors in my hand. You get to hear a lot of stories sitting in this shop. People talk about their jobs, their kids, or just the weather. I make sure to keep the razors and brushes clean because that is what keeps people coming back. It is just a regular shop where we do our job and go home at night. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to say hello and share some news about the street.
