Lohiya Brothers

The Mandore Anaj Mandi is a very busy place to be every single day. We are located at A-16 and you can find us by the stacks of grain bags piled up outside. There is a lot of dust in the air from all the wheat and pulses being moved around. My brother and I have been working here for a long time now. We spend most of our time talking to farmers or checking the grains that come in. The floor is made of rough concrete and there are always grains stuck in the cracks. We use old scales to weigh everything and the needles bounce around before settling. It is a loud environment with people shouting prices and trucks reversing into narrow spots. We have a small wooden desk where we keep the ledger books and a calculator with big buttons. The ceiling is high but the light doesn't reach the corners very well. We don't have any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that hums loudly all day. It gets very hot in the summer months but we just keep working through it. Our clothes always end up smelling like raw grain and jute bags. It’s a simple life of buying and selling what comes from the fields around here. We just try to keep the bags moving so that the next load can come in tomorrow morning. Usually, the market shuts down around sunset and we head home tired.
