If you go down toward P. O. Bedeshwar, you will find us at Cements India. This part of the country is very industrial, and since we deal with cement, everything has a thin layer of gray dust on it. You just get used to it after the first week. We spend our time filling bags and stacking them high. It is heavy work, and it keeps everyone fit, that is for sure. The warehouse is big and drafty, which is actually nice when the weather is humid. We have a small crew and we all know each other's families. When the wind blows from the sea, you can smell the salt in the air, but mostly it is just the smell of dry concrete. We don't have fancy computers or a high-tech tracking system. We use paper ledgers and old clipboards to keep track of what goes out on the trucks. The trucks come in through the main gate, get loaded up by hand, and then head out to construction sites all over the region. It is a bit of a rough environment, but we take pride in the fact that we are reliable. People know that if they need a load of cement, we will have it ready for them on time. We don't do much talking; we just get the bags moved and the orders signed. It is a simple, honest way to earn a living in Bedeshwar.
