Asharafi Omelette Centre

Our little shop is on Indira Marg in Jamnagar, right across from where the old railway station used to be. Being beside Navagam Road makes us easy to find if you are walking by in the evening. We focus mostly on omelettes, so there are always crates of eggs stacked up somewhere in the corner near the door. The stove stays hot from the time we open until the sun goes down and we finally pack up. It’s a small operation, and most of the time it’s just one or two of us handling everything from the cooking to the cleaning. The 361001 area is quite old, and you can feel that history in the buildings around us. We don’t have much in the way of indoor seating; it’s more of a place where you stand around on the sidewalk or take your food home in a paper wrap. People from the neighborhood stop by in the mornings for a quick bite before work. The air around the stall usually smells like frying onions and green chilies. Sometimes the traffic on Indira Marg gets very loud, especially when the big buses go past toward the center of town. We’ve been at this for a while now, and we know exactly how many eggs we need for a busy Friday night. The counters are a bit worn down from years of use. It isn’t a glamorous job, but we like being part of the street life.
