We are located at Shop No. 6 in the Jewel Chowk area. This part of the dry fruit market on Gulab Singh Marg is always smelling like roasted nuts and spices. Paras & Co. has been in this small shop for quite a while now. It is a tight space, especially when we have new bags of almonds or cashews piled up near the entrance. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We spend a lot of our morning sweeping the front and making sure the jars are lined up. There isn't much room for chairs, so we are usually standing or leaning against the counter. Gulab Singh Marg is a busy street, and people are always walking by, popping their heads in to ask about prices. We don’t have a fancy display, just the wooden shelves and the scales we use for weighing. Sometimes the noise from Jewel Chowk is so loud we have to shout to hear each other. It’s a very traditional way of doing business, no computers on the front desk, just a ledger and a pen. When the sun starts to set, the market gets even busier. We just keep serving whoever comes in and making sure the stock is what it should be. It’s a long day, but we like being right in the middle of the market action. We just tidy up the loose shells at the end.
