Being located at 28 Industrial Area in Gangyal means there is always noise around us. This part of Jammu is full of factories and workshops, and J&K Wire & Steel Industries fits right in. We spend most of our time around wire drawing machines and steel rods. It’s loud and usually pretty greasy. The guys on the floor know the machines by heart, even the ones that act up once in a while. We aren't a big corporate office with glass walls. Our walls are painted a dull color and there's usually a bit of metal dust on the windowsills. We focus on getting orders out on time, even when the power cuts out, which happens more than we’d like. It isn't the most glamorous job in the world, standing on a concrete floor all day, but it’s what we do. We mostly work with construction companies and local builders who need specific wire sizes. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a big batch for a truck leaving early the next morning. It’s just how things are in Gangyal. We’ve been at this same address for years and people know where to find us. Usually, you’ll find the owner sitting near the front, probably talking to a driver or checking a manifest. It’s a straightforward operation without any frills.
