Vijay Kumar Suman runs the Suman Medical Centre & Hospital in the heart of Jalandhar City. Our address is in the 144001 district, which is a very central location for everyone living around here. The medical center has been a part of the neighborhood for a long time now. Vijay Kumar is often the first one in and the last one to leave. It is a busy place, but we try to keep a calm atmosphere for whoever walks through the door. The building is older, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep it a bit cooler in the summer months. We have seen the city change a lot over the years, but the hospital stays pretty much the same. There is a lot of routine to our days. We check the supplies, talk to the families, and keep the records updated. It’s not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. The waiting room has some old magazines and a water cooler that always seems to be in use. You can hear the sounds of the Jalandhar streets outside—the horns and the shouting—but inside it is mostly just the sound of people talking quietly. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It is just a local medical center run by local people who know the area well and keep things moving.
