Standard Mill Stores Supply Co. is located on New Railway Road, very close to the railway station. Being near the station means there is always a lot of noise and movement outside. You can hear the trains whistling and the sound of people rushing to catch their rides. Our shop is an old-fashioned kind of place. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, packed with all sorts of supplies that mills and local workshops might need. It is a bit dark inside because the building is deep, but we have enough lights to see what we are doing. We mostly deal with hardware and industrial parts. A lot of our day is spent climbing ladders to get things down for customers or counting out small parts like bolts and washers. It is dusty work and your hands usually end up a bit dirty by the end of the shift. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and handle the money. There is nothing modern about how we run things, but it has worked for years. We know most of the regulars by their first names. They come in for a bit of talk and to get whatever part they are missing for a repair. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just stay open during the day and try to make sure we have the stock people expect us to have on hand.
