New Fancy Hair Cutting Salon

This shop is my main place on Gulab Devi Road in Jalandhar City. We are situated near Windsor Park, which is a landmark most people in the city know. The name is New Fancy Hair Cutting Salon, though we’ve been here long enough that the 'new' part is just a name now. It’s a traditional hair cutting shop. We have the old-style chairs that are really sturdy. I’ve spent many years standing on this floor, cutting hair for the men in Jalandhar. The shop isn't very large, but it’s enough for what we do. We have a couple of assistants who help with the shaving and the cleaning up. On Sundays, the place is usually packed with guys waiting their turn, and the bench outside gets full too. We don't have a website or any of that fancy stuff. People just know where we are. Gulab Devi Road is always busy, and sometimes the dust from the street comes in, so we are always wiping down the mirrors. It’s hard work, standing all day, but I enjoy the conversations we have. You hear all the local news and gossip while you’re holding the scissors. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We try to keep the prices fair so everyone in the neighborhood can afford to come in for a trim. Windsor Park is just a short walk away from us. We’ve been cutting hair here since my father's time, more or less.
