Indian Engineering Corporation is located at S 178 in the Industrial Area. It’s a standard industrial shed like many others on this block. The name sounds very formal, but we are just a practical bunch of guys working with steel and various machine parts. The air in the industrial area is usually heavy with the sound of hammers and the smell of welding smoke. Our day starts early before the sun gets too hot, though the heat inside the shop is hard to avoid during the peak of summer. We handle all sorts of engineering tasks, from basic repairs to making specific components for bigger machines. We have some old lathes and drills that have been with us for years, and they still do the job just fine. There’s no fancy office here, just a small desk in the corner where we keep the invoices and some old catalogs. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders. Most of our customers are other business owners from nearby who need something fixed or fabricated quickly. We just take the measurements, do the work, and hope it fits the way it should. It’s a lot of manual labor, and we often go home with grease under our fingernails. That’s just the nature of this kind of business. We’ve been at S 178 for a long time and have seen the area change, but our work remains pretty much the same day after day.
