Gurpal Singh

My name is Gurpal Singh and I’m based at Pal Eye & General Hospital in Nurmahal. Nurmahal is a bit different from the main city of Jalandhar. It’s a bit smaller and has its own pace, which I actually prefer. We are at 144039. Most of the people who come into the hospital are locals from the town or from the surrounding villages. I see a lot of eye problems, which is what we do mostly, but we handle general health issues too because people need a place they can get to without traveling too far. It’s a lot of responsibility. I spend most of my day looking into people's eyes or checking their charts at my desk. The building isn't brand new, but it works for what we need to do. We don’t go in for anything too flashy here. It’s just about getting people the care they need so they can go back to their farms or their families. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming when there’s a long line out the door, and the light in the hallway keeps flickering, but we manage. My staff and I just try to be helpful and get through the day. We’ve been part of this community for a long time now. It’s honest work and it keeps me busy from sunrise until late in the evening. Nurmahal is home for us, and the hospital is just part of the daily landscape.
