Hotel Rangmahal

We are situated out in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, right where the pin drops for the 345001 area code in India. Running Hotel Rangmahal keeps us all quite busy, especially with the climate out here. It is a local place and we have been part of this landscape for a good bit of time. Most of us who work here grew up nearby, so we know the heat and the sand pretty well. Our day usually starts early before the sun gets too high, getting everything ready for whoever is coming through. It is a bit of a trek to get out this way, but we are here every day regardless. We don't have a lot of corporate talk to offer. Instead, we just focus on keeping the rooms tidy and making sure there is enough water and food for everyone. Sometimes things break and we have to fix them ourselves, which is just part of living in Jaisalmer. Hotel Rangmahal is a big structure, but the team is small and we all know each other. We talk to guests like regular people because that’s what we are. There’s a lot of history in Rajasthan, and being located here feels like we are part of that, even if we are just doing the laundry or checking people in. It is honest work and we do it without much fuss. We just keep the doors open and the lights on for anyone visiting. It's a simple life out here in the desert.
