Hotel Mehrangarh

We’ve got this hotel right behind the municipality building in Jaisalmer, in the Dhibba Para area. It’s number 334. If you know Jaisalmer, you know it’s all about that yellow stone and the desert sun. Our place isn't one of those massive luxury resorts you see in magazines; it’s more of a local spot where we try to keep things comfortable. We’ve been running it for a while now. The location is pretty handy because we’re close to the main parts of town but just far enough back that it’s not right on the noisy main road. We spend most of our time making sure the rooms are clean and the water is running right. It’s a lot of work keeping a building going in this heat. We have a small staff of local guys who help with the cleaning and the kitchen. We don’t really do the whole corporate management thing. It’s more about just being here and talking to the people who stay with us. Sometimes we sit out on the terrace when the sun goes down and it starts to cool off. The municipality building is a good landmark for people trying to find us. It’s a simple life here, just looking after the building and the guests who come through. We’ve seen a lot of travelers over the years, and every day is a bit different.
