Desert Safari Camp

Jaisalmer is a tough place to live if you do not like the sun. We are based out of Vallabh Darshan and we spend our days managing the camp out in the dunes. It is mostly just us, the sand, and the wind out here. We spend a lot of time making sure the tents stay pegged down when the desert breeze picks up in the evening. It is a lot of physical work carrying water and food out to the site every single day. We do not have fancy paved roads out there. Sometimes the camels get a bit stubborn and do not want to move, so we have to be patient with them. We have lived in this part of Rajasthan for a very long time now. The nights get surprisingly cold, so we are always busy gathering wood for the small fires. We keep things very basic and practical. If you are looking for a big luxury hotel with elevators, this place is definitely not that. It is just a simple camp where you can see the stars clearly. Dust gets into everything we own, but that is just part of the deal. We wake up before the sun to get the chores done before it gets too hot to move. Most days are spent fixing things that the sand has worn down. We know the paths through the dunes better than anyone else. My family has been around Jaisalmer for generations. We just keep the camp running day to day without much fuss.
