I am tucked away at A-2 Bhagwati Sadan, right near the big water tank and the Pital Factory in Shastri Nagar. It is not a place where you get much walk-in traffic unless people are specifically looking for me. The sound of the factory nearby is always there in the background, a kind of low thumping. My shop is small and filled with the smell of machine oil. I specialize in repairs, so I don't have many new things to show. Most of my work comes from old mechanical watches that people have had for decades. These old pieces need a lot of cleaning and oiling to keep running. I have a heavy wooden desk that belonged to my uncle. It has deep scratches from years of tools being dropped on it. The light comes in through a small window near the ceiling. I don't have a computer or any digital equipment in here. Everything is done by eye and by touch. Sometimes I have to make a part myself because you can't buy them anymore. It’s slow work and it can be frustrating when a tiny spring flies across the room and disappears. I spend a lot of time on my hands and knees looking for things on the floor with a flashlight. It is just a quiet place where I can focus on the work. I don't really care much for the modern world outside. I just like making things tick again.
