Vishnu General Store

We are tucked away near Udai Singhji Ki Haveli in the Tripoliya Bazar area. The building is quite old, so the shop has these thick walls and high ceilings that stay a bit cooler in the summer. It’s a general store, which basically means we sell a little bit of everything. You can find school notebooks, biscuits, hair clips, and even some basic hardware if you look around. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes I have to use a long stick to reach things that are stored high up. Living and working in such a historic part of the city is interesting because you see tourists and locals mixing all day. We don't have any modern checkout counters, just a wooden box for the cash and a lot of patience. My grandfather started selling things here, and not much has changed since then. We know the families who live in the havelis nearby and they send their kids over to buy matches or snacks. Sometimes it’s hard to find where we put a specific item because the inventory is so mixed up. But that’s the charm of a neighborhood store. We aren't a supermarket, we are just a small shop where you can buy one single pen or a whole bag of sugar. It’s a quiet way to spend the day, watching the world go by through the open front.
