Vimal Kirana

Vimal Kirana is located on Bajrimandi Road in Jaipur. This part of the city, around 302021, has its own pace. The shop is a typical kirana store like many others you see in Rajasthan. We have large sacks of rice and flour sitting on the floor near the entrance. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so we often have to use a small wooden ladder to reach the items at the top. It’s a bit dusty because of the road work that seems to happen every few months around here. We just keep a cloth handy to wipe things down. In the afternoons, when it gets really hot, business slows down a lot. That’s usually when we take a break or have some tea while waiting for the evening crowd. People come in to buy spices, lentils, and other kitchen essentials. We don’t have fancy neon signs or anything like that. Just a simple board with the shop name. Sometimes we have to move the heavy sacks around to make space for a new delivery. It’s tiring work, but it’s what we do. We’ve gotten used to the sound of the bikes and rickshaws going up and down Bajrimandi Road. It’s a small community here, and everyone pretty much knows everyone else. We just try to keep the staples in stock so nobody has to go too far for their daily cooking needs. Usually, we close up when it gets dark and start again the next morning.
