Vijay Departmental Store

People living around 9/1, Vidhyadhar Nagar usually see us opening the shutters first thing in the morning. Vijay Departmental Store has been part of this street for quite some time now. It is a basic shop where we keep all the daily essentials like grains, oils, and snacks. The aisles are a bit narrow because we try to fit in as many things as possible. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded when two people are trying to pass each other with baskets, but everyone is used to it by now. We spend a lot of our time checking the dates on products and restocking the shelves. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy boxes and moving stuff around all day. The fans inside make a bit of noise, but they keep the place cool enough during the summer months. Customers usually come in with a list, but they often end up staying for a few minutes to talk. We know most of the families in the neighborhood. We don't really do any big advertisements or anything. Most people just walk over because we are close by. If we run out of something, we try to get it back in stock by the next afternoon. It is just a regular place where you get your household supplies without any fuss. We've got the counter usually covered in piles of small change and those big plastic jars of candy for the kids.
