We are tucked away in Siddharth Nagar, right near the Amit Bhardwaj petrol pump in Malvi Nagar. It is a busy little pocket of Jaipur, and there is always someone coming or going. Our shop isn't very big, so it gets crowded pretty fast once you get a few sewing machines and rolls of fabric inside. There are threads all over the floor by noon, no matter how much we try to sweep. We have got these old tables where we do all the cutting and marking with chalk. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to sit and wait or use the manual machines if we have to. The sound of the machines is like a constant hum that you eventually stop noticing after a few hours of work. We get a lot of people coming in from the nearby houses asking to fix a zipper or shorten some pants. It is not the kind of place where everything is perfectly lined up on hangers. It is more of a working space where things are constantly being made. The petrol pump next door is a good landmark because people always get confused with the lanes around here. During the summer, the heat in Jaipur is no joke, so we keep the door open and hope for a breeze. It is just us doing our thing every day, trying to keep up with the pile of clothes that need finishing before the sun sets on Malvi Nagar.
