Sweeta General Store

The shop is tucked away in Wagmani Colony in Sanganer. It is much quieter here than on the main roads of Jaipur. Mostly we see the families who live in the houses nearby. Kids come in after school for little treats or some school supplies they forgot they needed for their homework. We keep a bit of everything, from cooking spices to soaps and stationary. It is a small space, so things are packed in pretty tight. Sometimes you have to move one thing to get to another. We spend a lot of time just chatting with the ladies from the colony who come in for their daily milk or bread. It feels more like a community spot than just a store. We don't have any big signs or bright lights to attract people. The morning starts with us cleaning the front step and getting the fresh stock inside before it gets too hot. During the rainy season, we have to be very careful about the dampness because of all the paper goods we carry on the shelves. There is an old wooden counter that has been here since we first started. It has some scratches on it from years of use, but it works just fine. We know the names of most of the children who run in and out. It is a steady kind of life, watching the neighborhood grow while we stay here in the same spot. It isn't anything fancy, just a place for the colony people to get what they need without going all the way to the market. We stay open until the street gets dark.
