Suraj Departmental Store

We are set up at Shop No 2 in Kanak Vrindavan, right along Manglam City Road. Since we are on Sirsi Road in Jaipur, it gets pretty dusty and hot, so we’re always wiping down the glass jars and the counter. The shop has a lot of different sections for groceries, snacks, and some basic household items. We spend a good part of the day just unpacking cardboard boxes and trying to find a spot for everything on the shelves. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes when the new shipments arrive. Most of the people who come in are living right here in Manglam City, so we’ve gotten to know what they like to buy. We don't have a big staff, so it’s usually just one or two of us handling everything from the billing to stocking the fridge. The morning is usually quiet, which gives us time to count the inventory and see what we need to get from the wholesalers. By evening, it picks up and we’re busy fetching items for people who don’t want to walk through the aisles. We don't use any high-tech systems, just a simple way of keeping track of what’s sold. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning until we pull the shutters down late at night. There’s always something to do, whether it’s rearranging the biscuit packets or just sweeping the floor one more time before closing.
