Being right outside Chandpole Gate means there is always noise and people moving around. Shri Balaji Trading Company has been in this spot for a while now and we’ve gotten used to the sound of the traffic and the constant horns. It’s a busy area and that keeps us on our toes. Inside the shop, things are a bit cramped because we try to keep as much stock as we can on the shelves for our customers. You have to step over boxes sometimes to get to the back room. We trade in various goods and every day is a bit different depending on what people are looking for. Sometimes the morning starts slow but by noon it’s a mess of people asking questions and trucks trying to park in the narrow space outside. I usually spend my time checking the lists and talking to the drivers. We don't have a website or anything like that because we mostly talk to people face to face or over the phone. It’s simpler that way. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint but we never seem to find the time to stop everything and do it. We’re just focused on getting the orders filled and making sure we don’t run out of the basics. It’s hard work and the dust from the road gets into everything, but it’s our living and we like it here.
