We are located on the third floor at number 1 in Purohit Ji Ka Katla. Being in Johari Bazar means it’s always a bit of a climb to get up here, but people seem to find us okay. Shree Ji Saree has been in this spot for a while. The stairs are a bit narrow, so carrying big bundles of sarees up to the third floor is a real workout. We do it every morning when the new stock arrives. The shop has a low ceiling, which makes it feel a bit cozy, or cramped, depending on how many people are inside at once. We focus mostly on sarees of all different materials. We don't have a big window to show off the goods, so we rely on people coming in and actually touching the fabric. It is a very hands-on business. We spend hours every day just refolding everything. If you don't fold them right, they get wrinkled, and then nobody wants to look at them. We use old-fashioned calculators for the bills. The power goes out sometimes, so we keep a couple of torches handy. It’s just part of working in an old market area like this one. We know most of the other shopkeepers in the building. We all share the same hallway and talk about the weather or the price of goods. It’s a tight-knit place and we just do our part to keep things running.
