Sharma General Store

Our shop is at A-29 in Suraj Nagar, right on Amarpali Marg. Living and working in Panchyawala is pretty decent, especially being in the Vaishali Nagar area of Jaipur. Sharma General Store is a place where we mostly know everyone’s name. We’ve got all the usual things, like lentils, flour, and those little packets of shampoo that everyone buys. The morning is usually the busiest time because people are trying to get their cooking supplies before the heat hits. We have a big metal shutter that’s a bit rusty and makes a lot of noise when we open it at dawn. The shelves are made of wood and they’ve started to sag a bit under the weight of the ghee jars. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just walk in or call us on the phone if they need something brought over to their house. My son helps out after his classes, mostly moving the heavy boxes or organizing the snack section. We have a small fridge for cold drinks, which is a lifesaver when it gets to forty degrees outside. It’s a simple life of checking expiry dates and sweeping the floor. We don't have any big plans to expand; we just like being the local spot where you can grab a pack of cigarettes or a kilo of sugar.
